  Music - Grades 5 & 6

Building on the musical knowledge begins during the elementary years, students have the opportunity to acquire more advanced musical skills and to exhibit those skills through various types of performances throughout the Florence City School system.

 

 

 Fine Arts - Grades 5 & 6

Teacher:  Cherovise Lambert

 

From hands-on art projects to units of study in art appreciation, this course helps students to become more aware of the beauty in their world and to understand the many ways in which artists have enriched our lives.

 

 

 

   Home Arts - Grades 5 & 6 

Teacher:  Karon Liverett 

 

A modern-day update of the former home economics curriculum, this course introduces students to a wide range of topics including cooking and sewing.

 

 

 

  Skills for Success - Grades 5 & 6 

 

Teacher:  Grace Ann Coburn

 

This course is offered for students who need extra help with certain areas of Math and Language Arts.  The course incorporates technology into the study of both subjects. Students are taught and practice skills that will help them be successful throughout their education career.

 

 

 Computer Applications - Grades 5 & 6 

 Teacher:  Christy Landers

 

Students learn the concepts included in the Technology Education Course of Study in order to increase their facility with the computer keyboard and their understanding of ways that computers may be used to enhance all aspects of the learning process.  To be declared "computer literate," a requirement for high school graduation, a student must pass a special test upon completion of the one-semester course at Florence Middle School.

 

  Career Exploration - Grade 6 

Teacher:  William Baldwin

 

Through computerized modules students experience the excitement of constructing a building, designing an automobile, and more.

 

 

 
  Band - Grade 6
Director:  Deborah Basinger

 

This course is offered to 6th grade students.  Learning an instrument at an early age is only the beginning of what band is really about.  You will form a new family of friends and memories that will last throughout your school days and beyond graduation!

 

  Strings - 6th Grade 

 Director:  Daniel Jamieson

 

The string orchestra program for Florence City Schools is a complete program from beginning through advanced-level classes. Students have the opportunity to learn to play a stringed instrument (violin, viola, 'cello, or double bass) beginning in the 6th grade at Hibbett Middle School.
