EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITY SCHEDULE

SCHOLAR’S BOWL—MR. DUNCAN
2:45-3:30 1st, 2nd & 4th MONDAY EACH MONTH 6TH GRADE ONLY

This is a team that participates in competitions with other teams and schools. The competitions involve factual knowledge from all subject areas. This is a very intense academic program.  Team members will be selected through a qualification test. 


INTRAMURALS-2nd & 4th  MONDAY OF EACH MONTH

The mission of the HMS intramural sports program is to provide all students an opportunity to learn and enjoy sports is a safe, non-competitive environment.  The intramural program will develop fitness, leadership, and social skills in students who participate.

 

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:

1st 9 weeks - Volleyball

2nd 9 weeks - Basketball

3rd 9 weeks - Soccer/Flag Football

4th 9 weeks - Softball

 


 

STUDENT COUNCIL - MRS. WHATLEY
2:45-3:15 ONE FRIDAY EACH MONTH

This organization is made up of students interested in community service, student government, and developing and improving student morale.


FIRST LEGO ROBOTICS TEAM—MRS. COLLIER
2:45-3:45 1ST, 2ND, & 4TH THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH

BEGINNING IN OCTOBER

This team prepares and competes in regional, state and national competitions. Students should be technologically knowledgeable and highly motivated. Parents will be required to assist with the team in some way.


FUTURE LEADERS OF HIBBETT (FLH) - MRS. OAKLEY                                   

NATIONAL JR. HONOR SOCIETY or NJHS—MRS. OAKLEY & MS. COBURN 2:45-3:15 3RD THURSDAY

FLH is to prepare upcoming 6th graders for their future roles as members of the NJHS.  Students are selected at the end of 5th grade year based upon a yearly core average of 90.

 NJHS is made up of students who meet stringent academic and citizenship requirements set by national guidelines. It is the highest honor a student can achieve at this level. Students will be notified if they have been chosen for this membership based upon a core average of 90 or higher, AND teacher/administrator approval the end of the first semester of their 6th grade year.


CHORUS/SHOW CHOIR-MS. FLACK
2:45-3:45 EVERY WEDNESDAY

This is for any 5th or 6th grader interested in singing. There will be several performances this year.


 

MATH TEAM—MRS. SMITH & MR. BROWN
2:45-3:45 EVERY TUESDAY  


This if for 5th and 6th graders. This Team will be competing in math competitions at the local, regional and state levels. Team members must be strong in mathematics and will e identified through a math placement test.

 


ORFF ENSEMBLE—MS. FLACK
2:45-3:45 EVERY THURSDAY

The Orff Ensemble is a group of percussion instruments.  This group is made up of chorus members ONLY. You must join chorus and then audition for Orff Ensemble.


YEARBOOK TEAM—MS. MORGAN, MRS. CORNELIUS, & MR. BALDWIN
2:45-3:45 2ND & 4TH THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH                                 5TH GR MEETS ON 2ND THURSDAY - 6TH GR MEETS ON 4TH THURSDAY

The yearbook staff will include 5th and 6th grade students.  We will work closely with our Jostens representative to create the 2010-2011 yearbook.  Students' responsibilities will include taking pictures, designing and organization.  Membership limited to 25 per grade level.

DRAMA CLUB - MS. COBURN
2:45-3:30 - EVERY TUESDAY

This activity exposes students to the basics of drama and theatre, and prepares them for involvement in Hibbett/FCS and community theatre.  Memorization skills, working together, proper personal discipline and good work ethics are skills that are stressed.


FCCLA - MRS. LIVERETT
2:45-3:30 - EVERY TUESDAY

The Family, Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is open to 5th and 6th grade students.  The focus of this club is to promote the family.  Students will be given opportunities to engage in leadership through community service to strengthen the family.
