Florence Drop two in Lauderdale
County Tournament
Playing in their last regular
season match, the Falcon’s
played at Mars Hill Bible School
in the Lauderdale County
Tournament. Florence faced
Lexington in the first round of
the double elimination tourney.
The top ranked Golden Bears
jumped out to an early lead and
cruised to a 25-6 win in the
first game. Florence regrouped
and kept the match close at
15-16 before Florence mistakes
allowed Lexington to win the
final game 25-17. Florence
moved into the loser’s bracket
and the next opponent would be
Lauderdale County who defeated
Waterloo in the previous match
to advance. Due to injuries,
Florence ran a two setter
offense for the first time all
season and looked like it would
help the Falcon’s advance.
Florence won game one 25-18 but
struggled to get any offense
going in game two losing 13-25.
In the final game, with the
winner advancing and loser going
home, Florence took an early
lead and looked like they were
going to come away with the
win. Florence led 13-9 needing
two points to advance but poor
passing allowed Lauderdale
County to come back and tie the
match at 13-13. After a time
out, two more serve receiving
errors ended the match and the
day as Florence lost 13-15.
Florence ended the regular
season with an 8-32 record and
will be taking on 6A-power Bob
Jones High School in the Area 15
tournament hosted by Bob Jones.
Game time is schedule at 4:00
pm.

was not over as Florence had one
more chance to earn a victory,
